Workshop: Mississippi Valley Sampler Blanket
11 in stock
Teacher: Kirk Dunn
Knitter Kirk Dunn, aka The Knitting Pilgrim, returns to the Almonte Fibrefest (albeit virtually) with a fun 3-hour workshop about how to design, and knit, a simple sampler blanket with Mississippi Valley-themed squares. Kirk will kick things off with a show and tell of a few of his recent designs, followed by a demonstration of how he designed the Mississippi Valley Sampler Blanket squares, and how you can design your own squares too, using a design software called Stitchpainter, or just graph paper and a pencil. He’ll show techniques for knitting intarsia with a few colours, and will demonstrate how to easily assemble the squares to make either a small lap or children’s blanket, or a larger bed blanket. Kirk will use Topsy Farms yarn — a producer from Amherst Island, near Kingston — but participants can use whatever worsted weight (2-ply) yarn they have on hand (so this can be a great stash-buster project, too). Kirk’s blanket square charts, and the blanket pattern, will be provided to participants. This class is suggested for intermediate-level knitters (knit and purl).
Supply Kit includes: Kirk’s blanket square charts, and the blanket pattern, will be provided to participants. Printable instructions of intarsia knitting technique will also be provided.
Students Bring: at least 6 colours of your own worsted wool (2 contrasting main colours, and 4 secondary colours — for example, blue and yellow as main colours, and secondary colours of green, black, red and orange), size 4.5mm needles, a darning needle and scissors
